Abstract Stage, a Yu-Gi-Oh fanfic | Fanfiction.net

Pairings: This is supposed to be Thornshipping (Anzu x Yami/Dark Marik), though there are a couple other potential implications in here.

Premise: I’d rather not give this one away here. I think you can catch on.

Summary: “No, Marik’s character is making a desperate gambit in a very small window of time that is closing quickly. Though he’s trying to convince his prey that he’s going to be successful, the truth is that his story is in danger of being buried in the struggle between the Pharaoh and The Darkness.”

Continuity: This is an AU, but is heavily intertwined with DM continuity; in some weird place between anime and real life.

Notes: Scene references taken Episodes 74 and 89 of the English YGO DM series, and perhaps one or two things from the episodes in between.

Welp, this round was very challenging for me. I’m not going to lie. For the first time in this Season of the contest, I’m afraid I’ll have to go with an AU. I usually only try to reserve those for when I’m having difficulty fitting something into the canon (not that that’s the only reason to write AU; I just enjoy challenging myself with canon connectivity), and I have no shame in admitting that one above is something I find difficult.

Yami Marik is just one of those plot devices (I’m afraid he’s not really a character, in my opinion) whose head is difficult to get into so far as I’m concerned. That’s probably because he’s already a part of someone else’s head. To me, this pairing is difficult in canon without going through the ‘trigger heavy’ route, and with good reason – being a murderous Id who revels in making others suffer is difficult to portray in any other way. That can get boring after a while of the same repetitive plot (particularly on – kidnapping, mind slave based non-con), so I tried to add a spin to mine. I don’t think that I can function without some connection to the canon, however, so we’ll see how well I do in this AU. Thanks to everyone who’s been supportive with the feedback and responses.

Immersion + Here I Am Again

Life has been quite a whirlwind for me these last few months. Searching for work and trying to hang onto what little employment I’ve had has been a struggle. Those are the two more prominent reasons that I’ve been away. About-as-importantly, I’m afraid that I haven’t been writing as much as I would like to, and therefore I haven’t been discussing or thinking about it as much. This means I don’t quite have enough thoughts for posts as I want.

However, a friend of mine asked me to review a work of his today, and taking a look at it made me comment on something that I feel would be useful to examine here as well.

It’s been a while~

WOW. IT REALLY HAS.

It wasn’t my intention to leave this blog for such a long time, but I’m afraid that my forray into the world of writing has been quite diminished by an abundance of Real Life World Suck. If you’ll notice, however, I’ve changed the background of my blog as well as my Icon picture for OCD matching purposes.

I feel odd about not posting stongly worded and serious rantings and ravings here, and that may also be a reason for some of my decreasing frequency in posts. Normally I’m adding a tidbit, some sort of advice or story-related tale. I haven’t had many of those adventures lately and for that, I apologize.

If you’d like to keep up on more of my casual pursuits, please check out  My Tumblr. I update there with a little more frequency, but only because my posts are shorter and don’t always have as much substance as I put into the things I’ve posted here. There is most definitely discussion involving writing, but much of it is YGO-centric and I tend to filter out some of the things that don’t apply to general writing.

A bit of an Update, so that this post has content!:

I was participating in the YGO fanfiction contest off-season (basically, a mini-contest between the major iterations), and I did in fact write two new things.

Associates – The pairing given to me was Duke x Pegasus, and it speculates on their relationship pre-Duelist Kingdom.

These Scars Have Stories to Match – The pairing was Seto x Marik. I’m afraid I didn’t pull it off as well as I wanted to, but I got something worthwhile out of it: A Walking Dead and Yu-gi-Oh! crossover! Be careful, it’s long – about 29k words. It’s a marathon.

I’ll try my best to post a little more information about the process behind these stories as it relates to writing as soon as I can! Thanks to all of those who are still checking/interested!

Hey guys~! I’m back after my NaNo break to talk to you guys about writing for the Christmas season!

NaNo – End

So, I’m not going to lie to you guys. I wasn’t able to win NaNoWriMo. I’m not even going to share how many words I actually have, because it’s a small, pathetic number.

I’m not going to beat myself up, though. I had legitimate things to handle this semester in school, and in my life, and I’m going to keep my chin up, keep chipping away at my novel piece by piece and still get it done. I’ve been writing for it steadily, just not at the pace that would have allowed me to finish NaNo as a winner.

In fact, I’m writing a lot more often than I was previously, which is supposed to be one of the goals, and therefore, I consider myself as having won in some fashion. I’m juggling original and fanfictional work again (I haven’t written fanfiction in an even longer time than I haven’t been writing steadily) and I’m looking forward to blowing off some of the steam from the pressure of NaNoWriMo with some ficlets. I’ll be following with them, actually, in the next post. 😀

To others who tried NaNo and did not succeed – keep your head up and keep writing. Who says November has to be the only month in which you can finish a novel. The website still offers wonderful advice and supplementary resources. Go check it and out and above all else, make sure you keep that pen in your hand~!
